Example: Angry Birds

Version 1.1.2 - Jul 5, 2010

Loved the website, so I bought the app. Perfect translation. Two requests: add a "# right" indicator (really important), and possibly a drawing practice of the kana. Had to get a second app for the latter, and the former I did manually.

Great app!

Version 1.1.2 - Jun 23, 2010

Minimalist app that focuses squarely on drilling the hiragana and katakana into your head. No bamboo backgrounds or cutesie manga characters to distract you from the task at hand. Gets the job done!

Version 1.1.2 - Jun 18, 2010

If you want efficient practice of Hiragana and Katakana in a simple, clean environment, then this app is for you. Its usabilty is remarkable and its interface is both practical and simple. This is great practice!

Version 1.1.2 - Jun 8, 2010

Great app. I love not needing the internet to practice my hiragana and katakana. Very smooth opperation and user-friendly. I would like it more if it automatically corrected you after around 5 or 10 wrong answers. I don't like having to research the kana online when I cant read the symbol or just dont know it. Other than that im definetly glad i got this app. So useful for practice.

You pick which sets of kana you want included and as they flash you enter the romaji. Gets you actively involved. Great memory tool! Simple and to the point. Beats the multiple choice type and flip card programs. Best yet!

Version 1.1.2 - May 1, 2010

Helps me practice when I've got five minutes of downtime. If you don't know a character, just click on it.

Version 1.1.1 - Mar 15, 2010

If you've ever used and enjoyed their website, this app will not disappoint. So far I'm halfway done learning Hiragana and this app hels a lot, especially during my morning commute. Get it.

Version 1.1.1 - Mar 6, 2010

Bought this app and learned over half the hirigana within 1 week!

Version 1.0 - Jan 27, 2010

This app is just like the website, that's exactly what I was looking for! I recommend this app to anyone wanting to learn Japanese

Version 1.0 - Jan 24, 2010

This app does exactly what it promises and does it VERY well. I have never once had it crash or freeze up. It includes exhaustive lists of Hiragana and Katakana and is a steal for how cheap it is.

I have zero complaints, but rather a few kind suggestions for the developers of this application and the free website associated with it. They are as follows:

1. Allow selection of individual characters for study instead of just a row. This would allow users to cherry pick specific kana they are having trouble with so they can be drilled in a concentrated manner.

2. Add some options for color changes. I will sometimes use this before bed in a dark room and the white background is too much of a contrast. The same goes for the website. I suggest making an option for a black or dark grey background so its easier on the eyes.

Thanks for making a portable version of this great website!!

I just started learning Japanese this year and it was my brother who showed me the PC version of Real Kana. I used it multiple times a week, using it maybe for 15 minutes a day. I knew every character faster than I ever thought I could, took maybe a week. I always hated flashcards so this was the perfect alternative. When I found this to be on the Iphone, I could not wait, I still have Katakana to learn :D.

Pros:
User Friendly Interface
Simple yet effective
Great Price
Good for the on the go person

Cons:
None that I have found, will update if i do though
